More on the Battle on the Midway
• The Battle on the Midway is an annual dual hosted by Left Coast Wrestling in conjunction with USA Wrestling, California-USA Wrestling and SDIKWA (San Diego-Imperial Kids Wrestling Association).
• The event will take place on the flight deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier which was used by U.S. Troops in Desert Storm and Vietnam.
• The 2019 edition of the Battle on the Midway marks the third time that Fresno State has participated in a wrestling event on the aircraft carrier. The Bulldogs made history when they competed in this 'Battle' in 2017 for a dual against Air Force, marking the first time that a wrestling event has occurred on the USS Midway. The Air Force Falcons walked away with a 24-12 win in the inaugural dual, and one year later, Stanford picked up a similar 22-15 win in the 2018 event. The 2019 edition of the Battle on the Midway will feature four teams and two duals for the first time and will be broadcast on national television for the second year in a row.
• The 2019 field includes Army, Navy, Fresno State and Wisconsin. While the premier event takes place at Friday evening, there are three other duals slated for the afternoon.

Navy Notebook
• Navy will field one of the program's most inexperienced teams in recent memory, as just four starters off last year's squad that posted a 6-4 record, placed fifth at the EIWA Championship and 37th at the NCAA Championship return.
•
Casey Cobb (133),
Tanner Skidgel (165),
Spencer Carey (174) and
Joshua Roetman (285) were among the starting lineup a year ago and return to the team this season. Roetman was Navy's starter a year ago at 197 pounds, but will bump up to heavyweight in his senior campaign. Roetman, however, will not be in the lineup this weekend.
•
Jacob Allen (133) was also a starter a year ago, however, he will leave vacant his 125-pound spot to push up and battle returning 133-pound starter
Casey Cobb.
•
Tanner Skidgel, the defending 165-pound EIWA Champion, Carey and Roetman all qualified for the NCAA Championship last year and enter this season among the preseason rankings.
• Juniors
Logan Treaster (125),
Cody Trybus (141),
Scout Skidgel (157) and
Andrew Buckley (184), along with sophomore
Morgan Fuenffinger (149) will assume starting roles this season.
Scout Skidgel, Buckley and Fuenffinger will be wrestling in their first career duals.
• Trybus was the starter at 133 pounds his freshman year, but lost the job a year ago to
Casey Cobb. Trybus maintained a high level of wrestling throughout the year and concluded last season with a 13-4 record.
• Two freshmen will represent Navy in the lineup at its two heaviest weights -
Jacob Koser at 197 pounds and
John Birchmeier at heavyweight.
