BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Navy women's cross country team continued testing itself in top-flight nationwide competitions with action at Saturday's Paul Short Run. One of 43 teams racing in the women's gold 6k event at Lehigh University, the Mids came in 26th place as three of its runners turned in top-150 individual results in a field of 365.
Junior
Emily Craig (Reistertown, Md.) was the top-finishing Midshipmen on Saturday as she crossed the line in 74th place with a time of 21:03.5. She was within 10 seconds of breaking into the top-50 as Princeton's Margaret Liebich was 50th at 20:53.5.
The freshman duo of
Elizabeth Sullivan (Portsmouth, R.I.) and
Lauren Moore (Danbury, Conn.) gave Navy two more top-150 efforts as they clocked in with respective times of 21:28.2 and 21:39.8, good for 127th and 150th.
Anna Kovacs (So., Toledo, Ohio) and
Karla Mendoza (Sr., Madison, Neb.) were the final two Mids to score team points as Kovacs came in 204th at 22:03.3, while Mendoza as 224th at 22:10.4.
In the team standings, Navy accumulated 733 points to rank 26th overall. Amongst Patriot League rivals in the field, the Mids were fourth-best as Boston University netted 472 points in 17th place, while Army had 678 points in 21st. Lehigh finished three positions ahead of Navy in 23rd with 694 points. A fifth Patriot League squad, Holy Cross was 33rd with 829 points.
After this meet, Navy will turn its attention to their annual head-to-head matchup with Army on Friday, Oct. 18 in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
