Scouting the Midshipmen
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) leads the team with 75 goals and 86 points on the season. The sophomore currently has 163 career points on 129 goals and 34 assists. He is first among active players in career points with
Bobby Lee (Santa Ana, Calif.) who is second with 147 points on 114 career goals and 33 assists. Freshmen
Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.) and
Will Clark (Laguna Beach, Calif.) lead the team with 23 and 19 assists, respectively.
Defensively,
Ronan Williams (Severna Park, Md.) and
Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the way with 104 and 91 saves, correspondingly. Williams leads the way with 14 games played, while Sandberg has 13 games logged on the year.
Brandon Shields (Lake Forest, Calif.) has played in eight games, chipping in 29 stops.
Sandberg Tabbed MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week Again
The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced its weekly award winners and Navy's
Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) was selected as Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week. It is the second consecutive week for the sophomore to earn the distinction.
Sandberg helped Navy to a 14-8 upset victory over No. 17 George Washington at Scott Natatorium on Friday night. The sophomore goalie played roughly 26 minutes at goal, posting a career-high 12 saves, while surrendering just five goals. It was the fourth time this season and fifth in his career that Sandberg recorded double-digit saves. In his last two games, he has recorded 23 saves to post a pair of victories against ranked opponents (#16 Fordham, W, 15-12; #17 George Washington, W, 14-8). The sophomore has 91 saves this season.
The Series – George Washington
The Midshipmen lead the Colonials, 53-10 (.841), in the all-time series. Navy opened the series with eight straight victories, going 52-3 (.945) before George Washington posted seven straight wins. Navy broke GW's seven-game winning streak on Friday, Oct. 25, posting a 14-8 victory.
Navy's last win against George Washington away from Annapolis came in the 2015 CWPA South Division Championship, as the Midshipmen picked up an 11-7 win in Lewisburg, Pa. The Mids also won 18-14 against GW that season in Washington, D.C.
Last Time Out
The Navy water polo team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, posting a 14-8 victory over No. 17 George Washington at Scott Natatorium.
Offensively, the Midshipmen scored 14 goals on the night. Nine different players scored goals with
Isaac Salinas (Spring City, Pa.) leading the way with his 16th hat trick of the season. Aside from Salinas' three goals,
Jake Altmayer (Pasadena, Calif.),
Andrew Shashin (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) and
Jack Weggeland (Riverside, Calif.) added two goals apiece.
Defensively,
Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif.) recorded 12 saves, while surrendering five goals in the win. It was the fifth time in Sandberg's career that he has recorded double-digit saves. He was relieved late in the game by senior captain
Ronan Williams (Severna Park, Md.), who notched a save in roughly six minutes of action.

Following the game this weekend, the Mids will close out the regular season with three games, including a pair of home contests. Navy is slated to play Wagner on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 11:00 a.m. before hosting Fordham later that day at 5:00 p.m. at Scott Natatorium. The Midshipmen head to Lewisburg, Pa. to close out the weekend and regular season with a single game at Bucknell on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Kinney Natatorium.
