CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior
Owen Davis (Rydal, Pa.) secured his 50th collegiate victory with a 3-0 sweep over the Cavaliers' William Holey, but the 16th-ranked Navy squash team (3-2) suffered an 8-1 setback against No. 9 Virginia (4-0) on Wednesday evening in the Mids' first-ever trip to Charlottesville.
The Highlights
• Wednesday's match marked the inaugural meeting between the two programs as members of the newly-created Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference which includes Dickinson, Drexel, Franklin & Marshall, George Washington, MIT, Navy and Virginia.
• Davis, who stands 50-26 over his career, joins team captain
Michael Kacergis as the only two players on the Navy roster to reach the 50-win milestone. Kacergis is two wins outside of Navy's all-time top 25 wins list, while Davis is now five behind David Koenig (2009-15 // 55 wins).
• Sophomores
Ryan York (Hunt Valley, Md.) and
Ben Korn (Stevenson, Md.) took their Virginia foes to four games on Wednesday evening. York took the opening game, 11-9, before Glenn Yates won the next three. Korn, meanwhile, fell behind 2-0, before scoring an 11-8 victory in the third game. Cullen Little, however, closed out the match with a game-four 11-6 win.
What's Ahead
• Navy will close out the week on Saturday when it plays host to No. 4 Princeton (0-0) at 11:00 am at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts.
