Â
Navy pressured on its offensive end of the field right out of the gate with the first three shots of the game and a pair of corner kicks in the first four minutes of play.
Jacob Williams (So., Millersville, Md.) registered the first shot of the match in the third minute after cutting in from the right-wing and his shot from 10 yards out deflected off a Raider defender and went high. The Midshipmen had a back-to-back corner kicks in the third minute with
Joe Alex (So., Lockport, N.Y.) hitting the crossbar on one of his corner kicks.
Toni Adewole (Jr., Clarksburg, Md.) then tried to tally the first goal of the game on a corner kick but his shot attempt at the far post was blocked by Colgate.
Â
In the fourth minute, off a long throw-in from Adewole,
Andrew Hopkins (Sr., Garrison, Md.) flicked a header toward the back post where West and Williams lurked. After the ball ping-ponged right near the goal line at the right post, West one-touched the loose ball into the net as Williams picked up the assist on the goal as Navy grabbed a 1-0 advantage over the Raiders just four minutes into the contest.
Â
Following the goal, Colgate started to maintain possession over the remainder of the first half but Bramblett and the Navy defense kept the Raiders at ease over the first 45 minutes. Bramblett made two saves on the only shots on goal Colgate registered in the opening stanza, despite holding a 7-4 advantage in shots.
Â
In the second half, the Colgate offense continued to hold the pressure on the Midshipmen as they racked up 12 more shots in the second half with six shots reaching goal. Bramblett was up to the task on the first five shots on frame but the Raiders stole a goal in the 87th minute with a header at the back post that sent the game into overtime.Â
Â
The overtime match marked the fourth-straight time Colgate played over 90 minutes and the third time in the last four matches Navy played in an overtime contest.
Â
In the 93rd minute, the Midshipmen committed a penalty inside their own 18-yard box giving the Raiders a penalty kick opportunity.
