TORONTO, Ontario — Playing on Canadian soil for just the second time in program history, the Navy squash team opened the season Saturday with an 8-1 loss to Western Ontario at the Mayfair Parkway Club in Toronto, Ontario.
Navy's lone victory of the day came at the No. 1 position with
Jack Lentz (Jr // Philadelphia, Pa.) earning an 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 sweep over the Mustangs' Matthew Henderson. Senior
Owen Davis (Rydal, Pa.) forced a fifth game after tying it up in the fourth with an 11-3 win, however, Western Ontario's David Mill was able to secure the victory in the deciding game by way of an 11-8 victory at the No. 3 position.
Four new faces were among Navy's ladder on Saturday, including three players who made their collegiate debut in what is one of the Mids' youngest lineups in recent memory. Among the newcomers,
Millen Randell (Chicago, Ill.) won the opening game of his match against Brett Schille at No. 4, but his Mustang foe rattled off wins in the next three to earn the 3-1 victory.
The Midshipmen will be back in action next weekend when they play host to the first of two round robin tournaments this month. Navy plays its home opener on Friday against Fordham (7:00 pm), followed by Haverford on Saturday (5:00 pm) and Boston University on Sunday (9:30 am).
