Navy senior quarterback
Malcolm Perry has been named Fourth Team All-American by Phil Steele Publications. Perry was selected as an All-Purpose player.
Â
Perry has had one of the best years a Navy quarterback has had in school history, rushing for 1,804 yards and 21 touchdowns on 267 carries (6.8 average), while completing 43 of his 79 pass attempts for 1,207 yards and six touchdowns. The American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year surpassed Navy's single season rushing record and single season total offense record with his Army-Navy single game 304-yard rushing effort in Navy's 31-7 victory over Army, his ninth 100-yard game in a row. He helped lead Navy to a 10-2 record, including wins over Air Force and Army that brought the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy back to Annapolis.
Â
Perry was also selected First Team All-American Athletic Conference at quarterback by Steele, Navy's only selection on the first team.
Â
Senior center
Ford Higgins and sophomore linebacker
Diego Fagot were named Second Team All-AAC by Steele, while sophomore fullback
Jamale Carothers, senior guard
David Forney, senior nose guard
Jackson Pittman, junior linebacker
Jacob Springer and senior punter
Owen White were named to the third team.
Â
No. 21 Navy travels to Memphis, Tenn. to play an outstanding Kansas State squad (8-4) on Dec. 31 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl (3:45 PM ET, ESPN). Kansas State is the only team in the country that defeated one of the four college football playoff teams (defeated Oklahoma, 48-41).
Â
A victory by Navy would tie the school record for wins (11 set in 2015). Perry needs 117 yards rushing to become the FBS single-season record holder for rushing yards by a quarterback.
