Tipping Off
• Navy and Virginia are meeting for the first time in six seasons and the 46th time overall.  The teams first met Feb. 5, 1910, which was 40,139 days ago.

• According to the Adjusted Tempo statistic on KenPom.com, which factors in both possessions and the opponent, as of Dec. 26 Virginia (59.4) and Navy (61.5) rank as the teams with the lowest and second-lowest, respectively, possessions a game in the NCAA (353 total teams).

• This is Navy's second game against a defending NCAA Champion.  The only other time the Mids faced a team the year after it won the national title was when Navy lost to Kentucky during the 1958-59 season.  Navy last played a team the year after it reached the Final Four when the Mids played North Carolina in the first round of the 1998 NCAA Tournament, and last played a regular season game against a team that played in the previous year's Final Four during the 1984-85 season when the Mids played St. John's.

• Navy is playing a nationally-ranked team for the fourth time under head coach Ed DeChellis and the 78th time overall.  The last time the Mids played a nationally-ranked team was Nov. 12, 2017, when they played at No. 13 Miami, Fla.

• Navy is playing a regular season game on one of the ESPN networks for the first time since playing at Texas on ESPNU during the 2010-11 season.  It is Navy's first regular season game to air on either ESPN or ESPN2 since Dec. 29, 1986, when David Robinson and the Mids played at UNLV on ESPN.
