Navy Senior Quarterback Malcolm Perry named a finalist for the Lombardi Award

Navy senior quarterback Malcolm Perry has been named a finalist for the Lombardi Honors Award, which is presented to an FBS or FCS football player based on performance and leadership honed by character and resilience.   Combined, those traits are a "force multiplier"  and greatly increases the influence on and effectiveness of a team.  The winner of the award will be announced at halftime of the national championship game.

Joining Perry as a finalist includes Derek Brown of Auburn, Joe Burrow of LSU, Jalen Hurts of Oklahoma, Jonathan Taylor of Wisconsin, Evan Weaver of Cal and Chase Young of Ohio State.

The Lombardi Finalist were selected by a combination of analytical metrics and a select panel of journalists and broadcasters. Finalists include three quarterbacks, a running back, two defensive linemen and a linebacker. The group represents players from the SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac-12 and the American Athletic Conference. This prestigious company has monopolized the AP, Walter Camp and USA Today All-America Teams and won or named finalist for: The Maxwell, Heisman, O'Brien, Manning, Unitas, Walker, Bednarik, Nagurski, Hendricks, Butkis, and Lott post season honors.

Perry has had one of the best years a Navy quarterback has had in school history, rushing for 1,804 yards and 21 touchdowns on 267 carries (6.8 average), while completing 43 of his 79 pass attempts for 1,207 yards and six touchdowns. The American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year surpassed Navy's single season rushing record and single season total offense record with his Army-Navy single game 304-yard rushing effort in Navy's 31-7 victory over Army, his ninth 100-yard game in a row. He helped lead Navy to a 10-2 record, including wins over Air Force and Army that brought the Commander-In-Chief's Trophy back to Annapolis.

No. 21 Navy will take on an outstanding Kansas State squad (8-4) on Tuesday in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl (3:45 PM ET, ESPN).

A victory by Navy would tie the school record for wins (11 set in 2015). Perry needs 117 yards rushing to become the FBS single-season record holder for rushing yards by a quarterback.
