ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men's tennis team will continue its 10-match homestand Saturday when the Mids (11-3) play host to Binghamton (5-4) at 10 a.m. and Richmond (6-2) at 1 p.m. in the Tose Family Tennis Center.
"We have two very competitive matches scheduled for our team on Saturday," said Navy head coach
Chris Garner. "Binghamton has played well this spring. Unlike when we played them last year, they are now healthy at the top of their lineup which creates a lot more depth for their team. Richmond has had our number over the last three seasons, but two of the matches went down to the wire. Both matches against Binghamton and Richmond will give our players a great competitive opportunity to keep developing as a team."
Navy enters the week after having split two close matches last weekend to Villanova and Temple. The Mids lost a 5-2 decision to the Wildcats and posted a 4-3 win over the Owls.
Andrew Ton (So., Milpitas, Calif.) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for his efforts against Temple. He paired with
Jack Dabek (Fr., Dublin, Ohio) to defeat the No. 20 doubles team in the country and won a straight set singles match at the No. 1 flight.
Binghamton and Richmond will compete against each other on Friday before both teams face Navy on Saturday.
Binghamton has posted a 5-4 record this season. Included among its results are a 6-1 loss to Temple and a 5-2 victory over Army.
Navy and Binghamton met last season for the first time. The Bearcats won the doubles point, but Navy won five singles matches to earn the victory.
Richmond travels to Annapolis with a 6-2 record on the year. The Spiders have compiled a 4-1 record in matches decided by the final score of 4-3. The lone loss in those five close matches was a defeat to East Carolina, a team the Mids lost a 5-2 decision to earlier this season.
Richmond defeated Navy by the score of 4-3 last season. The Mids won all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead, but the Spiders won three straight set and one three-set singles matches to rally for the win.
Richmond previously defeated Navy by the score of 4-0 in 2017 and 4-3 in 2016. The Mids defeated the Spiders, 5-2, in 2015.
