CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –– The Patriot League bestowed all-league honors on 35 members of the Navy swimming and diving teams on Thursday. Â
The all-league teams are determined by points scored in individual events during last week's Patriot League Championship. The Navy men's team won the program's 16th title in as many years and the Navy women's team won not only its eighth title in a row but also its 18th championship at the meet overall.
Both the first and second teams consist of 18 members, with more added if there are any ties (men's first team). All individual event champions automatically earn first-team recognition, with the remaining first-team positions filled based upon individual event points scored during the championship. All individual event second-place swimmers and divers not already appearing on the first team are then placed onto the second team. The second team also is rounded out by the next highest individual event point tallies.
Army West Point's combined total of 16 honorees ranked second in the league. The Black Knights also finished in second place in both of the team standings.
The Navy men's team received 19 all-league nods, with 13 of them being first-team laurels. Â
Navy's
Ryan Waters (So., Basking Ridge, N.J.) was selected as the Patriot League Men's Swimmer of the Meet. He won the 200 and 500 freestyle events on the weekend.Â
Bradley Buchter (Jr., Hickory, N.C.) earned his third men's diver-of-the-meet accolade in as many years by once again sweeping the one and three-meter events at the meet.Â
Caleb Mauldin (Fr., Chesapeake, Va.) received the men's rookie-of-the-meet laurel after winning both backstroke events during the championship.
Also winning an event for Navy and automatically receiving first-team honors were
Billy Cadigan (So., Lutherville, Md.), 400 individual medley;
Luke Johnson (So., Charlotte, N.C.), 1650 free; and
Micah Oh (So., Kent, Ohio), 200 fly.
The Navy women's program garnered 16 all-league honors, with nine Mids earning a first-team selection.
Lauren Barber (Sr., New Wilmington, Pa.) won three individual events –– plus four relay events –– to earn women's swimmer-of-the-meet honors for the third year in a row. She swept the two breaststroke events and won the 200 individual medley to end her Patriot League undefeated in 12 individual events. Barber also won all 16 relay events she was entered into, which gave her a perfect 28 for 28 record over the course of her career to set new league records for the most individual event wins, the most relay event wins and the most combined victories.
Hannah Montau (Fr., Germantown, Md.) won both diving boards to be selected as the women's diver of the meet. Also garnering a major individual award was
Martina Thomas (Fr., Fayetteville, Ark.), who won the 100, 200 and 500 free events to be tabbed as the women's rookie of the meet.
Additional members of the Navy women's team to win an individual event were
Delaney Walz (Jr., Mays Landing, N.J.), 100 and butterfly; and
Jamie Miller (Jr., Rochester Hills, Mich.), 100 and 200 backstroke.
