SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The Navy offshore team posted a fifth-place finish this weekend at the LA Harbor Cup in the Port of Los Angeles.
Following the three-day event, the Midshipmen finished in the middle of the pack in the 10-team regatta.
On the first day of the regatta, where three races were completed, Navy had a strong start in the windy conditions and won the first race and followed it up with a pair of fourth-place finishes to end the first day of racing in a tie for third overall.
George Davis and his crew slipped to fifth overall on the second day of racing in more moderate racing conditions. Despite the ideal conditions, Navy stumbled it the first race of the day and did not recover. In five races on the second day of competition, the Midshipmen totaled 31 points and moved down two spots to fifth.
The final day of the regatta featured two races in the Pacific Ocean just off the Port of Los Angeles, where the wind was light and shifty throughout the day. Navy sailed well on Sunday, with a third- and a fourth-place finish, but the Midshipmen were unable to make up ground as they finished fifth overall.
