Women’s Lacrosse Opens Patriot League Play at Colgate

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 13 Navy women's lacrosse team (5-2) travels to Hamilton, N.Y. to open up Patriot League play against Colgate (2-5) on Saturday afternoon at Beyer-Small '76 Field. Opening draw is slated for 12:00 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available for the game.
 
All-Time Series
The game between Navy and Colgate will mark the 15th meeting between the two programs. Navy is 11-4 (.733) all-time against Colgate. The Mids are 4-1 (.800) all-time against the Raiders in Annapolis, but are 5-3 (.625) in Hamilton, N.Y.
 
After beginning the series with three straight losses, Navy has won 11-of-12 meetings with Colgate, including four straight.
 
Last season, the Midshipmen needed overtime to post a 13-12 victory at home over the Raiders. Jenna Collins (2015-18) scored the golden goal with 16 seconds remaining in OT to give Navy the win.
 
In the last meeting in Hamilton, Navy won posted a 20-10 victory over Colgate.
 
Navy is 9-2 (.818) in Patriot League openers, including a 3-1 (.750) mark when starting the conference season on the road. Last season marked the first time that Navy and Colgate started the PL season against one another.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
This season, Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) leads the team with 37 points, scoring team-best 23 goals and boasting a team-high 14 assists. Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) is second with 20 points thanks to 14 goals scored. Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.), Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.), and Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) are also in double-figure points with 19 (11g 8a), 18 (14g 4a), and 14 (10g 4a), respectively.
 
Heyward leads the team with 34 total draws, while Roelofs is second with 27 and Harris is third with 26. Heyward paces the team with 13 caused turnovers, while Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) is second with 10.
 
Defensively, goalie Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has logged just under 385 of the 420 minutes between the pipes for the Midshipmen. This season, she is 4-2, including a victory over a ranked opponent. The senior has made 44 stops with a team-best 20 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Freshman Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) has played in four games, earning her first collegiate victory over No. 11 Florida. Young has six saves in just over 35 total minutes of work.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Colgate enters the weekend with a 2-5 overall record. The Raiders opened the season 2-1, but have dropped four straight games.
 
Noelle Patterson, Danielle Van Calcar, and Tara Atkinson lead the Raiders in points each tallying double-digit points in the season. Patterson leads the team with 16 points on a team-high 14 goals, while Van Calcar boasts 14 points on 10 goals and four assists. Atkinson leads the team with five assists to go along with seven goals. Annelise Kotz boasts a team-best 19 draw controls.
 
Defensively, goalie Samantha Croston has recorded 61 saves on the year, while allowing 69 goals. She leads the team in ground balls with 20, while Patterson is second with 18. Patterson and Ingrid Backe pace the team with nine caused turnovers apiece.
 
Roelofs Named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Navy women's lacrosse Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second time in her career, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
 
Roelofs played and started in a pair of games on the week for Navy, finishing as the top freshman performer for the Mids, scoring four goals with two assists for six total points. She added 15 draw controls and a ground ball.
 
The freshman scored a team-high two points against No. 1 Boston College on Wednesday, scoring a goal and adding an assist with four draws and a ground ball against the top-ranked Eagles. Roelofs helped Navy to an 18-12 victory over Brown on Saturday recording her first collegiate hat trick, netting three goals while adding a helper for a season-best four points. She tied for seventh in Navy women's lacrosse history with 11 draw controls in a game – just four DCs shy of the Navy single-game record.
 
Last Time vs. Colgate (March 17, 2018)
The No. 10 Navy women's lacrosse team trailed 12-9 to Colgate late in the second half, but scored four consecutive goals, including the golden goal in overtime to post a 13-12 victory at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) recorded her first collegiate golden goal in a five-goal effort to lead the Midshipmen to the overtime victory.
 
Navy trailed 12-9 following a goal by Colgate's Haley O'Hanlon with 16:30 to play in the game. The Mids chipped into the deficit with a Jenna Collins free-position goal with 15:04 to play. Meg O'Donnell (Forrest Hill, Md.) followed with a goal on a free-position attempt with 9:14 on the clock. Neither team was able to score over the next nine minutes, but Jenna Collins broke the scoring drought with 22 seconds remaining to knot the game at 12-12.
 
In overtime, Jenna Collins took a pass from Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) and buried it in the back of the net with 16 ticks left on the clock for the first golden goal of her career.
 
Offensively, the Midshipmen outshot the Raiders, 39-27, and placed 23 shots on goal. Six different Navy players scored goals in the game with four notching multiple goals. Jenna Collins led the team with five points on five goals, while Julia Collins (Clarksville, Md.), Larkin, and O'Donnell each added a pair of goals. Natalie Irwin (Annandale, Va.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) chipped in a goal apiece. Larkin led the team with two assists, including the helper on the game-winner, while O'Sullivan also added an assist.
 
Navy converted a school-record seven free-position goals on the day. O'Donnell and Jenna Collins each had a pair of FP goals, while Larkin, O'Sullivan, and Irwin each had free-position goals on the day.
 
Defensively, Ingrid Boyum (Herndon, Va.) picked up the victory at goal. The senior posted five saves en route to her sixth victory of the season. Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) entered the game briefly to spell Boyum, surrendering a goal in 31 seconds of action.
 
The Midshipmen caused eight of the Raiders' 21 turnovers on the day. Irwin paced the team with two caused turnovers, while six other Mids had one each.
 
Last Time Out
The No. 12 Navy women's lacrosse team posted an 18-12 victory over Brown on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. The Mids trailed 3-1 early in the first half, but closed out the final 24 minutes of the half on a 10-2 run to take control of the game.
 
Offensively, the Mids were led by Kelly Larkin (Alexandria, Va.) and Andie O'Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.). The duo combined to score 11 of Navy's 18 goals on the day with Larkin netting a team-high six goals and O'Sullivan posting a season-best five scores. Freshman Reagan Roelofs (Apple Valley, Minn.) also chipped in her first collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals. Larkin paced the team with three assists, while Kayla Harris (Annapolis, Md.) and Annalise Heyward (Charlotte, N.C.) added two helpers apiece.
 
Roelofs etched her name in the Navy record books as the freshman pulled down 11 of the Mids' 21 draw controls on the day. Her performance ties for the seventh best in a game in school history.
 
Defensively, Gab Harchelroad (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned her fourth victory of the season. The senior notched five saves, while allowing 10 goals with a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover to her credit. Abbi Young (Alamo, Calif.) also saw some time between the pipes notching a pair of saves, while allowing two goals.
 
Hannah Downey (Coronado, Calif.) led the team with three ground balls, while Natalie Irwin (Annandale, Va.) and Harchelroad added two apiece. The defense tallied five caused turnovers in the game with five different players contributing one each.
