ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy men's tennis team will travel to West Point, N.Y., this weekend to compete in the Patriot League Tournament.  The Mids (28-13, 6-0), who are the top-seeded team in the event, will open play Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the quarterfinal round against the winner of Thursday's Lafayette (4-11, 1-6) vs. Holy Cross (2-11, 0-7) first round match.

"Playing in the league tournament is a great opportunity for our team," said Navy head coach Chris Garner, who has guided the Mids to a pair of titles in the event in his four seasons on The Yard.  "It is always a very competitive event in each round.  We are looking forward to the chance to compete on Friday and will need to be ready right away."

Army West Point is playing host to the event.  Competition will be held on either the school's outdoor Malek Tennis Center courts or the indoor courts at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.  The Black Knights are the No. 2 seed in the tournament.

Navy garnered the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the second year in a row and the ninth time in program history.  The Mids did not play No. 8 Lafayette this year and posted a 6-1 victory over No. 9 Holy Cross.  The Leopards and the Crusaders will play Thursday at 3 p.m.

Navy has tallied a 14-0 record in the quarterfinal round of the event.  Also, the Mids have posted a 5-0 record against Lafayette in the tournament (4-0 in the quarterfinals) and a 5-0 record against Holy Cross (all in the quarterfinal round).  Navy last faced Lafayette in the tournament in 2016 and most recently played Holy Cross in the event in 2010.

The winner of Friday's quarterfinal round match will advance to a Saturday morning (10 a.m.) semifinal round match against either No. 4 Bucknell or No. 5 Boston U.  

Sunday's championship match will be played at noon, with the winner receiving the Patriot League's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
