ANNAPOLIS, Md. -  Late last week the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced an array of postseason awards. The Navy women's rowing program at the forefront of these releases as the Mids were recognized with two All-American nods, Joe Schlosberg as Region II Coach of the Year and five honorees on the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete team.

The duo of Alexandria Vallancey-Martinson and Ashlyn Dawson each garnered All-American honors with Vallancey-Martinson earning a spot on the 2019 Division I Pocock All-American Second Team for the second consecutive year. Dawson collected her first career accolade as she was named a 2019 Division I Pocock Honorable Mention All-American.

The pair of Vallancey-Martinson and Dawson powered the Mids' first varsity eight crew throughout the 2019 season with regular season wins at the Lake Wheeler Invitational and head-to-head victories over Georgetown and Lehigh before finding postseason glory with a Patriot League Boat and Team Championship, as well as a program-best V8 15th-place result at the NCAA Championship. For Navy's first place finish in the first varsity eight event at the Patriot League Championship in May, the Mids' V8 crew was recognized as the 2019 Patriot League Boat of the Year. Individually, both Vallancey-Martinson and Dawson are two-time All-Patriot League First Team honorees, as well as members of the Naval Academy's King's Cup rowing squad, that is set for competition this week at the Henley Royal Regatta in England under the United States Armed Forces banner.

Prior to Vallancey-Martinson's 2018 CRCA All-America nod, Navy's last honoree was Kricket Masters ('15), who was named a Second Team honoree following the 2015 season.

As a result of the team's success during the season, head coach Joe Schlosberg was selected as the 2019 CRCA Region II Coach of the Year. One of five coaches from across the nation to earn this prestigious honor, Schlosberg was recognized alongside Princeton's Lori Dauphiny, Texas' Dave O'Neill, Michigan's Mark Rothstein and Washington's Yasmin Farooq. Schlosberg just completed his fourth year at the helm of the program and has helped continue Navy's run of dominance in the Patriot League with the Mids' fifth straight league title and NCAA Championship appearance. This the third time in Schlosberg's career that he was selected as Region II Coach of the Year as the earned the award in 2017 and 2018.

The third announcement of postseason honors involved Navy placing five Midshipmen on the 2019 CRCA National Scholar-Athlete Team. Earning CRCA National Scholar-Athlete nods this season were Giovanna DeVito, Elizabeth Downing, Sam Fox, Megan Hanson and Kate Long. Hanson, the United States Naval Academy's Valedictorian for the Class of 2019, earned the national honor for the third consecutive year, while DeVito and Fox are now two-time recipients. The duo of Dowling and Long were both named to this list for the first time in their careers. To be eligible for this award, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in eligibility, raced in one of her institution's NCAA eligible boats for a minimum of 75% of the spring races and post a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.
