ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After a strong start to its 2019 season with an 8-1 mark in non-conference play, the Navy women's soccer team will dive headfirst into Patriot League action this Saturday night with a difficult road matchup against a Colgate Raiders club that was picked second in the 2019 Patriot League Preseason Poll. One year after the teams played into double overtime with the Raiders edging the Mids with a 1-0 golden goal victory in Annapolis, the Mids will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. for a 7 p.m. contest at Beyer-Small '76 Field on Saturday. The action between Navy (8-1) and Colgate (1-5-1) will be streamed live via the Patriot League Network.
Last Time Out
Navy rounded out its early-season run of non-conference play with a dominant 3-0 win at home over the Howard University Bison on Tuesday. Facing off with the Bison at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility, the Mids notched a goal in the fourth minute and never looked back on their way to their seventh consecutive victory. Just two days after a physical one-goal game at La Salle, Navy relied on its depth to bolster its effort on Tuesday as 21 different Mids saw action, three different players recorded goals and two goalkeepers split time in the goal for a combined shutout.

In the 3-0 victory, Navy outshot Howard, 18-8 with an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Saturday will be the 37th meeting between the two schools in a series that began in Navy's second year of varsity existence in 1994 ... Navy found itself on the short end of a 1-0 double overtime outcome on Saturday, Oct. 20 as Colgate earned the walk-off sudden victory in the 109th minute at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The matchup between the first and second-place teams in the Patriot League lived up to its billing as the Mids (10-5-3, 6-2 PL) and Raiders (11-2-3, 7-0-1 PL) were locked in a tight battle throughout. In the second period of sudden victory action,
Sydney Fortson came up with a stop in the 107th minute to hold the shutout. Unfortunately for the Mids, the Raiders' second shot on goal found the back of the net as Mara Cosentino beat Fortson with the clock showing 1:23 left.
