BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a 2-0 week and moving into second place in the conference, the Navy women's soccer team was recognized on Monday as
Jessica Black was the recipient of the Patriot League Forward of the Week award. Netting goals in both games for the Mids, Black captured the honor for the second consecutive week.
The sophomore attacker was a constant catalyst for Navy as she had a hand in four of the team's six goals in victories over Lehigh and Holy Cross. In the Mids' 3-1 win over the Mountain Hawks on Wednesday, Black scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute before assisting on both the game-winning and insurance goals over 77 total minutes of action. As part of Saturday's 3-1 victory over Holy Cross, the Cedaredge, Colorado native notched an insurance marker to turn a 2-1 score into a more comfortable two-score margin in the 60th minute. For the week, Black scored two goals, assisted on two others and registered three total shots over 154 combined minutes of action.Â
Through 14 games this season, Black leads Navy and the entire Patriot League with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Those goal and assists totals are tops on the Navy roster, while ranking third and first respectively in the Patriot League. As a program, Navy has won its last three games and sits second in the league with a 3-1 record, just one game behind Army (4-0).
The Mids will next be in action against those same Black Knights with a service academy showdown at Subaru Park, home of the MLS' Philadelphia Union on Friday afternoon. Kickoff of the 2026 Star Game matchup is set for 4 p.m. in Chester, Pennsylvania.
