BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off Navy's first conference win of the season this past weekend, the team was recognized on Monday as
Jessica Black was announced as the Patriot League Forward of the Week. The sophomore attacker played a pivotal role in the Mids' 3-1 victory over the Colgate Raiders to even its league mark at 1-1.
Black was an integral playmaker for Navy on Saturday as she assisted on both of its second half goals as the hosts salted away the win. In the 65th minute, just 34 seconds after the Raiders drew even at 1-1, Black found
Faith Graziano for the go-ahead goal before three minutes later assisting on
Sofia Grundy's score with an athletic no-look back-heel flick to a waiting Grundy for a one-time shot and goal. In 52 minutes of action against Colgate, Black registered four shots with one on goal.
Through 12 appearances this season for the Mids, Black has scored three goals and assisted on three more for a team-high nine points. She is currently tied for second in the Patriot League in assists, while being tied for fifth in total points and tied for sixth in goals.
Navy will continue its early run of Patriot League play with a road tilt at Lehigh on Wednesday evening. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
