CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For the second consecutive week, Navy senior
Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) was honored by the Patriot League as the conference's M-F Athletic Male Cross County Runner of the Week. Brophy was recognized for his efforts at last Friday's Battle in Beantown race. This honor is the fifth of his decorated career.
Brophy led the Mids against a strong 21-team field at the Battle in Beantown 8k race on Friday afternoon in Boston. Taking on a host of regionally-ranked runners and teams, including three squads in the top-25 nationally, Brophy finished second of 178 runners with a time of 24:11. The Mids' senior team captain led at the 5k mark before being overtaken late by Harvard's Kieren Tuntivate. He was the fastest Patriot League runner in the field by 23 seconds. As a team, Navy placed sixth overall in the standings.
The Navy men's cross country team have a bye on its schedule this week before picking up action on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa.
