CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Christine McDonnell (Jr., Suwanee, Ga.) was named the Patriot League Women's Golfer of the Week for the third time in her career, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. McDonnell's recognition also marks the second-straight week Navy has taken home the weekly award after
Shannon Gould (So., O'Fallon, Mo.) was named the Patriot League Women's Golfer of the Week last week.
At the Nittany Lion Invitational, McDonnell finished tied for 11th place in the 72-golfer field with a 4-over par 220. She just missed her first top-10 finish of the season by one stroke. The 220 McDonnell posted is tied for fourth all-time in program history for fewest strokes in a 54-hole tournament and she just missed her 54-hole tournament best of 219, which she posted at the 2017 Navy Fall Invitational.
McDonnell carded Navy's only sub-par round at the Nittany Lion Invitational with a 1-under par 71 during the second round of the tournament. In between her round of 71, McDonnell posted a 4-over par 76 in the first round and a 1-over par 73 in the final round. She also finished tied for sixth in the field with nine birdies throughout the weekend.
As a team, Navy used a 9-over par 297 in the second round to climb from 11th into a tie for fifth between the first and second rounds. The Midshipmen finished the tournament in sixth place with a 48-over par 912.
