ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Riding a three-game winning streak, the Navy women's soccer team will look to keep up that momentum with a home matchup versus East Tennessee State on Friday evening. The second game of a Navy soccer doubleheader on Friday, the Mids (4-1) are slated to host the Buccaneers (1-1-2) in an 8 p.m. contest at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility; the men's team takes on St. Bonaventure at 5:30 p.m. The action on Friday night will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
Last Time Out
Playing its third road game in four days, Navy notched its third straight win when it defeated the Hampton Lady Pirates by a score of 2-0 on Monday in Hampton. Bolstered by goals from
Baseley McClaskey and
Jeana Freeman, the Mids improved to 4-1 on the year, while the Lady Pirates dropped to 1-3 in the contest hosted at the HU Soccer Complex. McClaskey scored in the seventh minute as her corner kick knuckled through the hands of Hampton's goalkeeper and dropped just across the line, while Freeman tallied her first career goal in the 65th minute when she was on the receiving end of a series of slick passes before dribbling in 1-v-1 on Hampton's goalie and darting around the charging keeper before ripping a shot on net.
For the game, Navy outshot Hampton 11-5 with a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Molly Swiger earned her first complete game shutout as she turned aside Hampton's one shot on goal.
Award-Winning Efforts
For their success against Charleston Southern and The Citadel over the weekend, the trio of
Sydney Fortson,
Cadie Higginson and
Denisse Ramirez were awarded the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, Midfielder of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday, prior to the Hampton contest.
Fortson played all 180 minutes for Navy over the weekend with one goal against and five saves for a 0.50 GAA and an .833 save percentage, while Higginson tallied four points over the two games with an assist on Friday versus the Buccaneers and a goal and assist on Sunday against the Bulldogs. The third award-winner, Ramirez moved into the starting lineup over the weekend and made an immediate impact on both ends as she was part of a defense that allowed just one goal (a PK at The Citadel), in addition to finding her way into the box score on Sunday with the game-winning goal and an assist versus the Bulldogs.
