ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The final weekend of the regular season for the Navy swimming and diving teams has the men's squad facing to Columbia Friday at 2 p.m. and both the men's and women's programs playing host to the Navy Invitational Saturday at noon. Each meet will be contested in Lejeune Hall.
The Navy men's team has posted a 10-3 record this season heading into its last dual of the year against a Columbia squad that has notched a 4-2 record.
"Columbia is always a very challenging final dual meet for us," said Navy men's swimming head coach
Bill Roberts. "In general, we match up very well with them on paper and we always seem to race and compete very well together. Columbia has been competing consistently strong this season and has multiple event winners throughout their lineup. We will have to be very good from beginning to end on Friday."
Columbia registered a 161-137 victory over Navy last season in New York City. Two years ago, the Lions edged the Mids, 151-149, in Annapolis.
Saturday's Navy Invitational is a non-scoring meet featuring the Mids, Bucknell, Delaware, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Shippensburg.
"Saturday's meet is a terrific final opportunity for us to get in a lot of racing," said Roberts. "We are looking forward to having consecutive days of competition as we move into championship season."
"It's been a few weeks since we have last raced," said Navy women's swimming head coach
John Morrison, "so this will be a great opportunity to see all of our team race a ton in preparation for championship season. This also will be a great day to honor our senior class which has done incredible things for our program."
Navy's championship meet season begins with the Mids playing host to the Patriot League Championship Feb. 19-22 in Lejeune Hall.
