Coming off its thrilling All-Academy Championship victory, the Navy wrestling team (4-4, 1-1 EIWA) returns to action with a pair of road duals this week. The Mids open competition on Friday evening (7:00 pm) in Washington, D.C. where they will battle American (2-5, 2-3 EIWA) at Bender Arena. The following afternoon Navy makes the drive to Philadelphia to battle Drexel (6-6, 2-2 EIWA) at Daskalakis Athletic Center beginning at 4:00 pm.

Navy Notes
• Sixth-year Navy head coach
Joel Sharratt has led Navy to a 4-4 record this season, including a 1-1 mark against EIWA competition.
• Behind a 21-12 victory over Maryland on Dec. 6, Navy claimed the program's 900th victory (901-310-26) in its 112-year history.
• The Mids have wins over Fresno State (25-9), California Baptist 27-9), Maryland (21-12) and Bucknell (19-18), while dropping matches to #6 Wisconsin (24-12), #1 Penn State (45-0), Lock Haven (19-15) and #12 Lehigh (23-9).

Logan Treaster (125) is atop the wins column for the Midshipmen, boasting a 17-6 overall record. Meanwhile, he and freshman
Jacob Koser (197) own matching dual marks of 6-2 to lead the team. Koser owns a 2-0 mark in EIWA action this winter.

John Birchmeier (285) each won individual titles to lead Navy to the 2020 All-Academy Championship crown last Saturday at in Colorado Springs, Colo.
• Trailing 114.5-108.0 with two matches remaining, Navy rallied behind the efforts of Koser and Birchmeier. Koser, who not only went 3-0 on the day, but he did not give up a point, got the Mids to within two points following his 16-0 tech fall over VMI's Zach Brown in the 197-pound title match. Birchmeier, who has twice secured dual victories for the Mids this season (Maryland and Bucknell), sealed the team victory by way of his 10-4 win over Air Force's Kayne Hutchison in the final match of the evening.
• Navy (117.5) won the team crown by ONE point over second-place Air Force (116.5), who had three wrestlers win individual titles. VMI placed third (48.0), followed by Coast Guard (47.5), The Citadel (34.0), Merchant Marine (18.5) and Norwich (12.5). VMI and Coast Guard both crowned an individual champion.
• Koser was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler, while Treaster was the recipient of the Most Pins in Fewest Amount of Time Award with two in 2:15.
• Navy has been the dominant team, winning 16 of the 26 championships including 13 of the last 17.
• The Mids have won 103 individual crowns in All-Academy Championship history, including 77 of the 170 titles over the last 17 years.
• The Mids won the team title in 1995, `97, `99, `04, `05, `06, `07, `09, '10, '11, '12, '13, '14, '18,'19 and '20, while they claimed five or more individual titles in 1997, `99, `04, `05, `07, `08, '10, '11, '13, '17, '18, '19 and '20.
• Four of the five Mids who claimed individual titles were first-time All-Academy Championship winners -

Casey Cobb (133) earned his second All-Academy Championship in as many appearances. He is the 24th Navy wrestler to win at least two All-Academy Championship titles.

John Birchmeier (285) are just the 10th and 11th freshmen in Navy history to win an individual title at the All-Academy Championship and the first since
Jared Prince in 2017. It's the first time Navy has had two freshmen win in the same year. It's also the first time a Navy freshman has won at the two heaviest weights.
• A remarkable 13 of the 25 individual victories by Navy today were bonus-point matches.
Jacob Koser (197) earned bonus points for all three of his victories - one by fall and two by tech fall.

• Under the direction of ninth-year head coach Teague Moore, American has amassed a 2-5 record this winter, including a 2-3 mark in EIWA action.
• The Eagles opened their dual season dropping three straight matches - Wyoming (22-13), Army (33-7) and North Carolina (39-4) - before bouncing back to win two straight home matches against EIWA foes Brown (18-16) and Drexel (27-14). They have lost their last two duals, again to EIWA opponents Lehigh (33-8) and Columbia (21-20).
• Though both teams won five bouts apiece, Columbia's Angelo Rini defeated AU's Daniel Kidd by tech fall to give the Lions a 21-20 come-from-behind victory over American.
• 149-pound Kizhan Clarke (#8) and 184-pound Tanner Harvey (#19) are among this week's Intermat national rankings. Meanwhile, four members of the team are ranked in last week's release of the NCAA Coaches Panel rankings - 125 Gage Curry (#24), 141 Sal Profaci (#26), 149 Kizhan Clarke (#7) and 184 Tanner Harvey (#23).

The Series
• Friday's match marks the 16th meeting between Navy and American with Navy holding a decisive 13-2 lead.
• The inaugural match in the series was on Jan. 12, 1997, when Navy posted a 30-10 victory in Annapolis.
• Navy had its seven-match winning streak over American snapped a year ago when American won the match 19-18 by way of the first tie-breaker criteria which is number of wins (6 by American, 4 by Navy). It was the Eagles' first win in the series since defeating Navy, 19-17 on Jan. 16, 2009.
• The series took a two-year break in 2011 and '12, but met every year otherwise since 2004.
• The Mids own a 7-0 record against the Eagles in matches wrestled in Washington, D.C.

• In his ninth season as head coach, Matt Azevedo has directed Drexel to a 6-6 overall mark and a 2-2 record in EIWA action.
• The Dragons' wins have been against SIU Edwardsville (18-15), West Liberty (32-9), LIU (42-3), Cal Poly (25-21), California Baptist (23-15) and Binghamton (28-9).
