Toussaint Named NAAA Co-Athlete of the Week; Mids Sweep ECAC Honors

Toussaint, Provost and Van Loo helped Navy defeat Army in 2020 Star Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Coming off its 23.5-point victory over Army on Saturday in the 2020 Army-Navy Star Meet, the Navy gymnastics team was handsomely rewarded with four different weekly awards. Junior David Toussaint (Warren, Ohio) led the way as he was selected as the NAAA Co-Athlete of the Week presented by Northrup Grumman, as well as the ECAC Gymnast of the Week. Toussaint shared NAAA honors with Gabriella Mayes of the Navy rifle team as she led the Mids' win over Army in their respective Star Match over the weekend. Ben Provost (Sr., South Hadley, Mass.) and Connor Van Loo (Fr., Freeland, Mich.) joined Toussaint as the duo helped Navy sweep the ECAC weekly awards announcement with Provost taking Specialist of the Week honors and Van Loo the Rookie of the Week nod.

Toussaint led a well-rounded team effort for Navy on Saturday as the Mids won the 2020 Gymnastics Star over Army, 404.4-380.9. The junior competed in four events for Navy and placed top-five in all of them. He won the vault outright with a 14.6 score that was 0.25 points clear of second place, while finishing tied for first on the floor exercise with a 13.9. He rounded out his meet by placing third on the pommel horse with a 13.05 and fifth on the parallel bars courtesy of a 12.8 effort.

Provost turned in a pair of top-notch performances on Saturday as he led off the Army-Navy competition with a score of 13.9 on the floor exercise, that tied for first in the event, before closing the competition with a 13.8 on the high bar to win by 0.15 points. He was the first gymnast on the floor on Saturday and the last gymnast on the high bar as the anchor for Navy in their 23.5-point victory over Army.

In his first-ever Army-Navy gymnastics competition, Van Loo placed in the top-four in a pair of events. On his first routine, he scored a 13.5 on the floor exercise to place third overall before coming back on the vault and notching a 14.2, good for fourth place.

As a program these three ECAC honors are the sixth, seventh and eighth respectively for Navy over the first four weeks of the 2020 season. Individually, Toussaint has earned six ECAC weekly awards, while Van Loo is a two-time recipient. This is the first career honor for Provost.

The sixth-ranked Midshipmen will take their talents on the road this week with action in San Antonio at the 2020 All-Academy Championships versus Air Force and Army.
