ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Following the unforeseen conclusion to the 2019-20 seasons, our Sunday Salute series continues this week with Navy women's golf.
The Midshipmen got their 2019-20 season started on the right foot as they won their opening tournament of the season. At the Bucknell Invitational, Navy won the tournament after leading wire-to-wire at the Bucknell Golf Club, which was slated to host the 2020 Patriot League Women's Golf Championship. Sophomore
Shannon Gould (O'Fallon, Mo.) led the final two rounds of the tournament to win her first career individual title at the event.
For the season, Navy finished with three top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes during six tournaments throughout the 2019-20 season. At the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country, the Midshipmen finished 21st out of 53 teams at the Kiawah Island Classic to cap off the season.
As a team, Navy finished with a team average of 304.0 for the season, which marked the seventh-straight season that Navy has lowered its team average. The Midshipmen also combined for seven top-10 individual finishes, five top-five finishes and a medalist winner.
Gould led the team with three top-10 finishes and a pair of top-five finishes.
Christine McDonnell (Jr., Suwanee, Ga.) had a team-best 75.3 average during the season and she also had two of the team's six rounds at or below par on the year.
Navy's 2020 senior class of
Morgan Frazier (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and
Micah Vincent (Columbus, Ohio) guided the Midshipmen to back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Patriot League Championship heading into this year's campaign. Frazier captained Navy over the past two seasons and compiled an average of 77.6 during her four seasons. Vincent recorded a career-low season average as a senior with an 84.0 average this past year.
