ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's lacrosse team added 10 members to its roster with the addition of the Class of 2024. The freshmen are currently at the Academy participating in Plebe Summer.
The Class of 2024 includes Emily Armero (Pasadena, Md.), Lindsay Beardmore (Annapolis, Md.), Leelee Denton (Nashville, Tenn.), Kate Hartnett (Wayne, Pa.), Alex Mueller (Kirkland, Wash.), Annie Newton (McLean, Va.), Sarah Richardson (Saratoga, N.Y.), Caroline Stefans (Coral Springs, Fla.), Isabelle Thornburg (Alexandria, Va.), and Jo Torres (Prince Frederick, Md.).
Meet the Class of 2024
Emily Armero lettered in lacrosse (3 years), soccer (4), and swimming (2) at McDonogh School in Owings Mills, Md. She was an IAAM A Conference Champions in lacrosse (2019), soccer (2017, '18, '19), and swimming (2019, '20) Armero was named team captain of soccer team in 2019. She was a member of SGA serving as Co-President for Service (2019, '20), while also being a member of the Archdiocese of Baltimore - High School Leadership Institute "HI-LI" (2018), Archdiocese of Baltimore - Archdiocesan Youth Advisory Council Representative (2018, '19), Our Lady of the Chesapeake, Vacation Bible School- Jr. Counselor (2015-20), Our Daily Bread Volunteer (2013-20), St. Vincent De Paul Society Volunteer (2013-20), and Altar Server (2010-18).
Lindsay Beardmore lettered in lacrosse (4 years) and field hockey (4) at Archbishop Spalding in Severn, Md. She earned the C. Markland Kelly Award as a senior, while also being named team captain as a senior. Beardmore helped Spalding to an IAAM Championship runner-up finish in field hockey. She was named National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School National Academic Squad and Achieved Scholar of Distinction for field hockey. Beardmore is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Best Buddies, Women's Reach Out Leadership Group, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Student of the Year Campaign, and Giving Back Linda's Legacy.
Leelee Denton lettered in lacrosse (5 years), basketball (2), and cross country (2) at Harpeth Hall High School in Nashville, Tenn. She was named All-Region, All-State, and All-American in 2017, '18, and '19. Denton was selected All-Academic (2019, '20). She earned Jackie Pitts Player of the Year Award as a senior, while being tabbed team captain (2018, '19, '20). Denton served as co-president of Kids for Kids Club at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, while working as the sports editor for the high school newspaper. She was a member of the Act Now Volunteer Club and Badminton Club. Denton played club lacrosse with Skywalkers and Eaglestix.
Kate Hartnett lettered in lacrosse (3 years), soccer (1), and swimming (1) at Radnor High School in Wayne Pa. She led Radnor to the District I Championship (2017, '19), District Finals (2018), State Semifinals (2018), PIAA State Championship (2017), and League Championship (2017). Hartnett was selected to the PASA All-Academic team in 2019. She served as a student ambassador and member of note in a Tote Club, Students Helping Students, Best Buddies, Thirst Project, and Raising for Rwanda.
Alex Mueller lettered in lacrosse (4 years), soccer (4), and basketball (1) at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland Wash. She earned All-Conference and All-State in lacrosse in 2018 and 2019. Mueller was selected team captain for lacrosse (2019, '20) and soccer (2018, '19). In addition to lacrosse, she helped the Lake Washington soccer team to the State Championship and League Championship as a senior, being named League Defensive MVP and All-State. Mueller is member of Young Life.
Annie Newton lettered in lacrosse (4 years), basketball (4), and soccer (3) at the Madeira School in McLean, Va. She severed as team captain for lacrosse (2019, '20), basketball (2019), and soccer (2019). Newton earned the Kitty Stearns Buckman (Madeira '44) Award, which is presented annually to the Madeira student who has made an outstanding contribution to Madeira's varsity athletic program, possessing superb athletic skills, exemplary leadership qualities, a strong school spirit, and places great value on sportsmanship in athletics. She earned Honorable Mention All-Nova in basketball (2018, '19, '20). Newton served as Senior Co-Class President. She played club lacrosse with Virginia Metro. In addition, Newton interned in the office of Senator Patrick Leahy (Vt.) for five weeks as a junior, while interning for Special Olympics in Washington, D.C. as a sophomore.
Sarah Richardson lettered in lacrosse (5 years), basketball (4), and soccer (4) at The Albany Academies in Albany, N.Y. She was named First Team Colonial Council (2016, '17, '18, '19). Richardson led Albany Academies in scoring in 2019, while being selected team captain as a senior. She earned Second Team Colonial Council (2018, '19) in soccer and claimed the Scholar-Athlete Award for basketball (2018), while also serving as team captain for two years. Richardson spent the 2019-20 school year prepping at Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J. – a USNA Foundation School, participating in lacrosse, basketball, and soccer.
Caroline Stefans was a four-year letterwinner at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. She earned US Lacrosse All-American (2018), Miami Herald All-Region (2017, '18), and Sun Sentinel All-County (2018). Stefans played club lacrosse with Florida Select. She is a member of the National Honor Society, SOS Children's Village USA, and SummerQuest.
Isabelle Thornburg lettered in lacrosse (4 years), cross country (1), and soccer (1) at Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va. She helped Bishop Ireton to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championship (2017, '18, '19) and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Championship (2017, '18). Thornburg earned All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (2018, '19) and Second Team Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association All-Conference (2019). She was named to the Under Armour All-American DC Highlight Team (2017) and Under Armour All-American DC Command Team (2018). Thornburg is a member of the National Honor Society, First Honors, and Beta Club.
Jo Torres lettered in lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball at St. Mary's High School in Annapolis, after transferring from the Calverton School in 2018, where she lettered in lacrosse, volleyball, and basketball. She earned Second Team All-Anne Arundel County for lacrosse (2019) while attending St Mary's High School. Torres was named team captain for lacrosse (2020), however, did not compete during the 2020 season due to COVID-19. She was named First Team All-League with the Capital Area Lacrosse League (2017, '18), while being chosen lacrosse team MVP (2018). Torres was selected to the Under Armour All-America Underclass Command team in 2017 for the Washington D.C. region and in 2019 for the championship-winning Baltimore Highlight team. She is a member of the Science National Honor Society. Additionally, her sister, Jade ('22) is also a member of the Navy's women's lacrosse team.
