ANNAPOLIS, Md. – JC Hermus captured the victory at the Laser Crab Claw Regatta for the Navy intercollegiate sailing team this weekend. The Midshipmen had a total of 19 boats in the Laser and Laser Radial divisions.
Â
With fewer events, this year's Laser Crab Claw Regatta, hosted by the Severn Sailing Association, featured 39 boats in the Laser division and 33 boats in the Laser Radial class. The course was set on the Chesapeake Bay just past Greenbury Point. Saturday featured near-perfect conditions with 8-12 knots of breeze from the east with hardly any current and a fair number of puffs and wind shifts to manage.
Â
Each fleet completed four races and the racing was very tight throughout Saturday. On Sunday, the fleet encountered very light wind and racing was postponed until noon when racing was abandoned and left the results from Saturday to stand for the event.
Â
Hermus highlighted the event for the Midshipmen after winning the Laser fleet and
Sean Linden finished second in the Laser Radials.
Â
"Both of these finishes were extremely impressive considering that JC and Sean are relative newcomers to Laser racing and the fleets were very deep and talented," head coach
Ian Burman commented.

Navy returns to action at the J/22 Mid-Atlantic Championship and the Snipe Frigid Digit on October 3 and 4 in Annapolis.
