101st Meeting Between Navy and Lehigh Wrestling on Tap for Saturday

Navy Notes
• Inside the Match:
The Navy wrestling team (1-1) will look to build off last weekend's 41-3 victory over Clarion when it returns home to Alumni Hall on Saturday to play host to 18th-ranked Lehigh (0-1). Action is set to begin at 6:30 pm and will mark the EIWA opener for both programs.

• Follow the Action: The Navy-Lehigh match will be streamed online via ESPN+ with Pete Medhurst on the call. Fans can either subscribe to ESPN+ for $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year, while a subscription to the Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ bundle is available for $12.99 per month.
• The subscription allows you not only to stream on your computer, but also on the following devices: iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Android Phone, Android TV, Android Tablet, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, Chromecast, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Oculus Go.

• Format: Navy and Lehigh are scheduled to wrestle a traditional 10-bout, team-scored dual while the two programs will also wrestle extra matches that will count towards an individual's season record. Simultaneous to the dual, the Navy and Clarion "2's" will wrestle on a second mat. At the conclusion of the dual, two mats will again be utilized with matches featuring Navy "1's" vs. Lehigh "2's" and Lehigh "1's" vs. "Navy "2's."

• More on the Mountain Hawks: Led by 13th-year head coach Pat Santoro, 18th-ranked Lehigh opened its season last Saturday on the road where Pitt dealt the Mountain Hawks a 24-9 loss. Lehigh led 9-6 after four bouts, however the Panthers won the final six matches to earn the 15-point victory. Nine of the 10 matches ended in decisions with only Lehigh's win by fall at 125 pounds gaining bonus points. Lehigh enters Saturday's match with two wrestlers ranked by Intermat - Brandon Paetzell, #10 at 133 and Jake Jakobsen, #15 at 197. The Mountain Hawks are coming off their third-consecutive EIWA title after securing the crown at its home arena last March (6-7). They had nine placewinners, including five who wrestled in the finals, and claimed three individual crowns (Josh Humphreys, Jordan Kutler, Jordan Wood) to win the program's 37th championship. A two-time EIWA Champion, Humphreys did not wrestle in the opener, nor did two-time NCAA qualifier Brandon Paetzell or last year's starting 165-pound Brian Meyer. Heavyweight Jordan Wood is taking an Olympic redshirt this season.

• Kolat Era Begins: Cary Kolat (1-1 Navy / 40-41 Career) was introduced as Navy's eighth head wrestling coach on March 20, 2020. Navy fell short to #14 Pitt in its opener (22-14) wrestling without three starters, but came back to give Kolat his first win at the helm with a 41-3 victory at Clarion on Jan. 9. This is Kolat's seventh year as a DI head coach after previously building Campbell into a Southern Conference power and a national name. The three-time SoCon Coach of the Year led Campbell to three SoConTournament titles (2017, '19, '20) and a pair of SoCon regular-season crowns (2019, '20). He coached 19 NCAA Championship qualifiers, along with 12 individual SoCon Champions and 28 medalists at the SoCon Tournament.

• A Look Back at the Clarion Match: Navy secured its first win of the 2020-21 campaign by earning victories in nine of the 10 bouts to defeat Clarion 41-3 last Saturday at Tippin Gym in Pennsylvania  ... seven of Navy's nine victories earned bonus points with three falls (Caravela, Birchmeier, Cobb), one tech fall (T. Skidgel) and three majors (L. Treaster, Allen, Trybus) ... Navy never trailed in the match and won the first-three bouts before second-year starter Jacob Koser dropped a 6-2 decision at 197 pounds to 11th-ranked Greg Bulsak ... the 38-point victory was Navy's largest margin of victory since defeating George Mason 43-0 on Feb. 6, 2018 ... the 41 points were the most points scored by the Mids since defeating George Mason 43-0 on Feb. 6, 2018, while it marked the fewest points scored by an opponent since that same dual ... freshman David Key (184) and sophomores Jacob Koser (197) and John Birchmeier (285) made their season debut after missing the opener against Pitt ... Logan Treaster (125), Cody Trybus (133), Casey Cobb (149) and Andrew Cerniglia (157) all improved to 2-0 in dual action this season with wins over both Pitt and Clarion.
