MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – No. 14 Navy (3-7, 1-5 GARC) started the 2021 portion of its season with a score of 4,646 points as the Midshipmen dropped a pair of GARC contests to No. 3 Ole Miss (9-1, 6-1) and No. 4 West Virginia (6-0, 4-0 GARC) in Morgantown, W. Va. on Saturday. The host Mountaineers notched a 4,734 while the Rebels recorded a 4,706 to cap off the competition.

Junior
Mark Amdahl (Albuquerque, N.M.) led Navy with a 1,171 in overall scoring behind a 590 in air rifle and a 581 in smallbore.

The Midshipmen started the afternoon with a total of 2,300 points in smallbore with Amdahl leading the way in the discipline with a 581, which set a new season-high for the junior.
Michael Zanti (Jr., Norfolk, Va.) was second on the team with a 577 while the pair of
Gabriella Mayes (Jr., Rio Rancho, N.M.) and
Torrance Kang (Sr., Columbia, Md.) finished with matching 571s for Navy's final two counting scores.

To cap off their first contest of 2021, the Midshipmen compiled a 2,346 in air rifle with Amdahl pacing the team once again with a 590 to finish off his day. Amdahl was the lone shooter for Navy to reach the 590 threshold as Zanti finished second on the team with a 586 in air rifle.
Luke Knollinger (Sr., Valley Grove, W. Va.) notched a 585 and Mayes finished off the scoring lineup for the Midshipmen with a 585.

Lea Horvath of Ole Miss led all shooters in the field with an overall score of 1,190 points, which was sparked by a perfect 600 in air rifle. Following Horvath, West Virginia had the next nine overall shooters. Jared Eddy led the Mountaineers with a 1,186 behind the top smallbore score of the day at 591 points.

Navy now heads into the Star Match next weekend as it hosts Army on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the
Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.
