REHOBOTH, Del. – The Navy women's golf team played to a seventh-place finish at the Delaware Invitational over the weekend, posting a 58-over par 922.
Mara Hirtle (So., Pinehurst, N.C.) was the top individual performer for the Mids, finishing 18th with a 12-over par 228 over the three-round, 54-hole invitational hosted at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club.
"It was a great event this weekend," said head coach
Nadia Ste-Marie. "We played on a super golf course, although we had to deal with windy conditions throughout the weekend."
Hirtle opened the weekend with a 1-over par 73, just one shot off the lowest round of her career along with being her second-best score in a single round this season. The sophomore followed up her stellar first-round outing with a 6-over par 78 to head into Sunday tied for 19th place before posting a 5-over par 77 in the tournament's third and final round to move up one spot and finish in sole possession of 18th place in the individual rankings.
Eve Worden (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) finished just behind Hirtle with a 14-over par 230, highlighted by a final-round 75 on Sunday to rise 11 spots in the individual ranks. The 3-over par 75 third round by the junior was just two shots off the best score of her career (73).
Finishing tied for 28th among individual competitors was
Angelina Chan (Jr., Franklin, Tenn.) with an 18-over par 234. The best score of the weekend for the junior came in the first round of the two-day competition, posting a 3-over par 75 followed by a 6-over par 78 in round two and a 9-over par 81 in Sunday's final round.
Stephanie Lee (So., Southlake, Texas) proved to be another fast riser in the individual standings, rising seven spots on Sunday with 6-over par 78, the sophomore's best round of the tournament. Lee opened the competition with an 8-over par 80 followed by an improved 5-over par 77 in round two.
Bridget Hoang (Fr., Lawrenceville, Ga.) tallied her best score of the weekend with a 2-over par 74 in round two, finishing just above her season-average score of 73.7. The freshman finished tied for 51st after tallying an overall score of 25-over par 241 with an 8-over par 80 in round one followed by the aforementioned 74 in round two. Hoang finished the weekend with a final-round 15-over par 87 on Sunday.
Rounding out the Midshipmen participants over the weekend was
Jenna Han (Fr., Mahwah, N.J.), who finished tied for 54th with a 27-over par 243. Competing as an individual, the freshman posted a 9-over par 81 in round one followed by a 14-over par 86 in Saturday's second round.
Han bounced back by tallying her best score of the tournament, a 4-over par 76, to move up 11 spots on the final day of action. The 76 also marked a new career-low score for the newcomer, besting her previous-low round of 78.
Princeton finished first in the team standings with a 11-over par 891 on the back of a 5-over par 221 effort from Tiffany Kong who was crowned the invitational's individual champion.

Tori Smith (Sr., Arlington, Tenn.) is set to represent Navy in the inaugural Jackson T. Stephens Cup hosted at the Alotian Club in Roland, Ark. Following Smith's participating in the Stephens Cup, the Mids will conclude their 2021 fall tournament slate October 25-26 at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
