ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team returned to action over the weekend, winning the McMillian Cup in a field that featured nine teams.
Navy began its run to a McMillian Cup victory with a strong showing Saturday, compiling a second-place finish in the competition's opening race before ultimately finishing first in the second race of the day, finishing just ahead of Rhode Island who came in second followed by Massachusetts Maritime in third.
With its strong finishes on day one of the competition, the Midshipmen entered Sunday in a tie for first place with Massachusetts Maritime, each having four points, while New York Maritime was three points back in third place.
Navy picked up where it left off in Sunday's opening race, taking first after a late extension over Rhode Island, marking its second win of the competition.
The second race of the day saw the Mids take yet another victory, going wire-to-wire for the first-place finish ahead of Rhode Island and Coast Guard who finished second and third, respectively.
For the fifth and final race of the event, Navy secured its McMillian Cup victory with yet another win, finishing ahead of Rhode Island and Coast Guard.

Navy is set to return to action October 28-31 as it takes part in the J/105 Chesapeake Bay Championships before concluding its 2021 fall slate November 6-7 as it hosts the Kennedy Cup Regatta.
