Women’s Golf Finishes Second at Rain-Shortened Lehigh Invitational

The Navy women’s golf team played to a second-place finish at the Lehigh Invitational, which was cut from 36 holes to 18 holes due to inclement weather, posting a 24-over par 312. Mara Hirtle was the top individual performer for the Midshipmen, finishing third with a 4-over par 76.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Navy women's golf team played to a second-place finish at a rain-shortened Lehigh Invitational, posting a 24-over par 312. Mara Hirtle (So., Pinehurst, N.C.) was the top individual performer for the Midshipmen, finishing third with a 4-over par 76.

Tuesday's final round was canceled due to inclement weather causing unplayable course conditions at Saucon Valley Country Club's Grace Course.

"Unfortunately, today's round was a wash," said head coach Nadia Ste-Marie. "We struggled a bit on the greens yesterday, but we had a super practice session after our rounds and were looking forward to playing today. I'm disappointed we did get the chance to compete today."

In the lone round of the competition, Hirtle capped off her fall 2021 campaign with a 4-over par 76, tying her third-lowest single round of the season. The top-three finish by the sophomore also marks her second top-five finish of the fall, including tying for first at the Bucknell Invitational earlier in the season.

Stephanie Lee (So., Southlake, Texas) turned in a strong performance of her own, tallying a 5-over par 77 to finish tied for fourth in the individual standings. The sophomore tallied four birdies on Monday en route to tying the fourth-best single round score of her 2021 campaign.

Finishing just behind Lee in a tie for ninth was Tori Smith (Sr., Arlington, Tenn.), who posted a 6-over par 78 that included birdying twice through the 18-hole competition, marking the second top-10 finish of the fall for the senior.

Angelina Chan (Jr., Franklin, Tenn.) compiled a 9-over par 81, finishing tied for 19th, to round out the Midshipmen finishing in the top-20 of the 68-player field. The junior tallied at least a top-20 finish in each of her four tournaments this fall, including a pair of top-10 finishes.

Competing as an individual, Hannah Han-Kim (Fr., Potomac, Md.) recorded an 11-over par 83 to finish tied for 30th while fellow individual competitor Bridget Hoang (Fr., Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished tied for 35th after posting a 12-over par 84.

Eve Worden (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) and Jenna Han (Fr., Mahwah, N.J.) rounded out the field for Navy, finishing tied for 39th with a 13-over par 85, respectively.

Fairleigh Dickinson earned the team championship ahead of the second-place Midshipmen with a 17-over par 305. The Knights also took home the individual championship as Nicola Smith tallied a 1-under par 71 to earn medalist honors.

The Mids were well represented among the leaders in the individual standings with three golfers finishing in the top-10, the most among the 11-team field.
