ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– Men's basketball player
John Carter Jr. (Sr., Spring Hill, Tenn.) has been named to Naval Academy Athletic Association's (NAAA) Co-Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman.
Sharing the honor is Adam Weissenfels from the sprint football team. Weissenfels recorded a pair of interceptions during the sprint football team's 9-7 victory over Army in the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Championship.
Carter scored 19 points in Navy's 66-58 victory at Virginia on Nov. 9. The victory by the Mids over No. 25 Cavaliers marked the program's first win against a nationally-ranked team since David Robinson and Navy defeated Syracuse in the second round of the 1986 NCAA Tournament.
Carter was 4-4 from three-point range in scoring 16 first half points against Virginia to help the Mids to a 42-35 lead at halftime. His lone basket of the second half was a three pointer with 24 seconds remaining which pushed the lead out to nine points.
Navy will travel to South Carolina this week for a pair of games in Greenville. The Mids will first play a neutral site game against Radford on Saturday then will face weekend-host Furman on Sunday.
