ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After earning an at-large bid to the competition earlier this season,
Gavin McJones (Jr., Ranch Palos Verdes, Calif.) represented the Navy intercollegiate sailing team at the ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship over the weekend, finishing ninth in the 18-boat competition.
McJones got off to a slow start to begin the competition, but rallied to record a number of top finishes on Saturday afternoon. This year's fleet proved to be one of the most competitive on record and the racing was close from start to finish, proving the slightest of mistakes to be costly.
Ultimately, the junior came away finishing ninth overall in the 18-boat competition, a solid showing in what proved to be a very competitive event.
The Midshipmen are set to return to action this coming weekend as it travels to St. Petersburg, Florida for the ICSA Match Race Championships.
