Chloe Dawson Selected as CoSIDA Second Team All-American

Sophomore defender is a robotics & control engineering major

AUSTIN, Texas - The 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-American Women's Soccer Teams were announced on Friday and sophomore defender Chloe Dawson from Navy was recognized as a member of the Academic All-American Second Team. Made up of candidates who had earlier been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, Dawson (Fairfax, Va.) was selected as one of 12 student-athletes to the second team and the only sophomore on the squad. Overall as part of the 34 honorees over three teams, Dawson was one of just three sophomores to attain this exclusive accolade.

Named to the Patriot League All-Academic Team in November, Dawson, a robotics & control engineering major, has been a major asset for the Midshipmen team on and off the field as she's garnered the honor of 2020-21 Patriot League Rookie of the Year as a freshman followed by a spot on the All-Patriot League Second Team as a sophomore in 2021. A key member of Navy's defensive effort, Dawson played in 19 games with 1,559 minutes of action this past season. As a unit, the Mids' defense allowed 21 goals over 20 total games for a 1.01 goals against average with six shutouts. Equally adept on the offensive end of the field, Dawson ranked sixth in the Patriot League with five assists on the year. For her work in the classroom, Dawson has earned her way on the USNA's Commandant's List in each of her first two semesters and currently resides in the top-10 in the Naval Academy's Class of 2024 in Overall Order of Merit and in the top-25 in Military Order of Merit.

As a program, this is seventh straight year that at least one Midshipmen was selected to CoSIDA's Academic All-American Team. All-time, Navy now has had 21 selections to the CoSIDA Academic All-American Team since 1997.

The College Sports Information Directors of America has been selecting the nation's pre-eminent Academic All-American team for over one-half of a century. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

Criteria for the award requires a student-athlete be at least a sophomore, earn a varsity letter in their sport and have attained a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade-point average.

Nominees are first voted on by district, then all first-team all-district winners are placed onto a national ballot from which the Academic All-America teams are selected.
