BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Miranda Deng (Sr., North Potomac, Md.) earned her first career Patriot League Player of the Week honor this week after helping Navy to a season-opening win over George Washington, 5-2, the league announced on Wednesday.

Deng finished the season opener with a 2-0 record after winning a singles and doubles match this past weekend against the Colonials. She started her senior campaign with a victory at No. 1 doubles with her partner Jillian Taggart (So., Fair Oaks, Calif.). In the doubles contest, Deng and Taggart rolled to a 6-0 win over Alexis Nelson and Stella Wiesemann. The win was the first match completed in the race for the doubles point, where Navy swept the three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead.

In singles competition, Deng played at No. 4 singles and dropped just two games overall to sweep her match against Alexandra Vesikallio, 6-2, 6-0. Deng's singles victory gave the Midshipmen a 2-0 lead in the contest where they would go on to win 5-2 to open the campaign.

In her career, the native of North Potomac, Md., holds a record of 40-15 in singles matches with her .727 winning percentage ranking fifth in the program's record book. She also has a record of 48-18 in double matches where she ranks seventh in program history in doubles winning percentage.

Deng and the Midshipmen are back in action this weekend as they play host to Towson on Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Tose Family Tennis Center.
