BETHLEHEM, Pa. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams made a clean sweep of the Patriot League's weekly awards that were announced on Tuesday by the league office. Swimmers
Caleb Mauldin (Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) and
Sydney Harrington (Jr., Fairfax, Va.) and divers
Patrick Carter (Sr., West Islip, N.Y.) and
Meghan Gerdes (Sr., Spring, Texas) earned the accolades.
All of the awards were based off of the performances by the Mids during meets Saturday against Loyola and Sunday against George Washington.
Mauldin posted a time of 46.16 to win the 100 backstroke against Loyola. His mark not only bettered the Navy and Patriot League record of 46.78, but also the Lejeune Hall record of 46.54 set by Michael Phelps during the 2010-11 season. His clocking also was well under the NCAA B cut standard of 47.77.
Harrington broke her own Navy, Patriot League and Lejeune Hall record in winning the 200 butterfly against Loyola. She completed the event in a winning time of 1:53.74 to improve upon her previous best effort of 1:54.47. That clocking also was under the NCAA B cut standard of 1:59.23 and wasn't too far off the A cut time of 1:53.20. Additionally, Harrington's 100 fly time of 52.36 against the Greyhounds ranks second in school history to her own record of 52.12, and was over one second faster than the NCAA B cut time of 53.76.
Gerdes scored 322.43 points to win the three-meter board against Loyola. She won the event by 30 points and, in the process, bettered the NCAA Zone Diving Championship qualifying standard of 280 points.
Carter totaled 330.61 points on the one-meter board against Loyola to finish in second place (to teammate
Jake Hedrick) in the event, but his score qualified him for the NCAA Zone Diving Championship (300 was the requirement). He also won the three-meter event with another Zone Diving Championship qualifying score of 320.63. He needed to reach 320 points to qualify.
