GREENSBORO, N.C. –– The Navy men's swimming and diving team opened competition at the NCAA Championship by placing 20
th in the 800 freestyle relay event Wednesday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. The four Mids combined to post a time of 6:20.96 in the second of six heats contested on the night.
Tonight's clocking ranks second in school history to the 6:18.54 posted in February, the effort which qualified the Mids for the NCAA Championship.
"It was exciting to be part of the opening night of the NCAA Championship," said Navy men's swimming head coach
Bill Roberts. "We were very happy with how the relay prepared for this opportunity. It was great to see them get up and race against the best in the country."
Comprising Navy's entry tonight were, in order of how they entered the water,
Ryan Waters (Sr., Basking Ridge, N.J.),
Daniel Cook (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.),
Garrett McGovern (Fr., Nashville, Tenn.) and
Dominick Wallace (Sr., La Jolla, Calif.).
A time of 6:18.04 placed 16
th this evening and claimed the last scoring position.
Navy will have a busy slate of competition with both swimmers and divers in action Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
