ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Wednesday's women's tennis match between Navy and Loyola has been shifted to Annapolis and the match will take place indoors at the Tose Family Tennis Center. The match between the Midshipmen (3-2, 1-1 Patriot League) and the Greyhounds (8-4, 1-2 Patriot League) is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. No fans are allowed to attend the competition.
Navy starts its two-match week after snapping a two-match skid this past weekend with a 6-1 victory over Lehigh. The Midshipmen swept the doubles points, then picked up five singles wins with four coming in straight sets.
In doubles competition, Navy has racked up a 10-5 record overall this season and the junior duo of
Katreina Corpuz and
Meghana Komarraju lead the way with a 4-1 record as a team. In the Midshipmen's last match, Corpuz and Komarraju made their first appearance at the No. 1 doubles spot and picked up a 7-5 victory against the Mountain Hawks. With her four doubles wins this season, Corpuz now has a 35-11 record in doubles competition and her .761 winning percentage is the best in school history.
Through five duals this season, Navy has compiled a record of 19-11 in singles action, where the Midshipmen have won all five matches at No. 6 singles. Freshmen
Samantha Johns and
Stella Ribaudo have split time at the No. 6 spot with Johns going 3-0 and Ribaudo sits at 2-0 after her straight-set win against Lehigh this past weekend.
Miranda Deng has a team-leading four singles win this spring where she has gone 2-0 at No. 3 singles and 2-1 at the No. 4 position. As a senior, Deng now has a 43-16 singles record in her career where her .729 winning percentage ranks fourth in program history.
Loyola – who faced Delaware State on Tuesday – began the week with a record of 7-4 overall and is 1-2 in the Patriot League. This past weekend, the Greyhounds split a pair of matches in Pennsylvania where they upended Lafayette, 6-1, but lost a 6-1 contest at Bucknell. Loyola has three players with seven singles wins this year. Kateri Martin has played at the No. 1 position in 10 of the team's 11 matches en route to a 7-3 record for the Greyhounds while Abigail Thornton has posted a 7-3 mark at No. 2 singles. In doubles, Martin and Thornton have partnered for a record of 7-3 all coming at the No. 1 doubles court.
Navy is 11-0 all-time against Loyola and the Midshipmen won the last meeting in a 6-1 contest in Baltimore. Navy used four straight-set wins in singles matches to secure the road win during the 2019 season.
Following the match on Wednesday, the Midshipmen head to Lewisburg, Pa., for a 3 p.m. matchup against Bucknell on Sunday.
