Women's Rowing to Host George Washington in Early Saturday Competition

Mids and Colonials set for three-race slate starting at 7:45 AM

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - After a two-week break, the Navy women's rowing team will be back in action on Saturday morning with a home non-conference competition against George Washington. The first and only home meet of the year for the Mids, they'll host the Colonials for a three-race slate on the Severn River beginning at 7:45 a.m. The coaching staff from Navy plans on providing live video on the team's Facebook page "Navy Crew".

The teams will be competing in 20-minute increments with the racing going in V8, 2V8 and V4 order. The first varsity eight competition will start at 7:45 a.m. before the second varsity boats will head out down the Severn at 8:05 a.m.; Navy's 3V8 will also be racing in this event. The final race is tentatively scheduled for 8:25 a.m. with four boats competing in varsity four action. The host Mids will have three crews entered in the V4 race, while the Colonials will have one V4 boat.

Attendance Policy for Saturday
Attendance is limited to those that reside on the grounds of the United States Naval Academy. No members of the general public, alumni, parents or sponsors will be permitted unless they fall into the category of academy residents.

Navy vs. George Washington
Rarely meeting during the spring regular season recently, the Mids and Colonials have occasionally crossed path in fall head racing at events such as the Navy Regatta, Head of the Potomac and Princeton Chase events. George Washington competes as a member of the Atlantic 10 and most recently posted a program-best second place result at the 2019 A-10 Championship.

Last Time Out
Navy had a successful start to its 2021 season on Saturday, April 3 with a pair of victories as part of a three-race event with Northeastern University. Racing at Overpeck Park in Northern New Jersey, the Mids collected wins in the first varsity eight and first varsity four competitions. The action was the first for Navy since the 2019 NCAA Championship, 671 days ago. 

Navy's V8 ended the season-opening competition with a strong a 3.5-second victory over Northeastern in race number three. The Mids crossed the line at the conclusion of the 2,000-meter race with a time of 7:06.48, while the Huskies posted a 7:09.98 result.

For its effort, the Navy V8 was selected as the Patriot League Boat of the Week.
