ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– Kristina Dzhandzhapanyan (Sr., Diamond Bar, Calif.) from the women's soccer team and men's swimmer Garrett McGovern (Fr., Nashville, Tenn.) are this week's recipients of the Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athlete-of-the-Week Award, presented by Northrop Grumman.

Dzhandzhapanyan scored Navy's lone goal in regulation versus Colgate in the Patriot League Tournament Final on Saturday.  In the 13th minute, the Mids' senior team captain received a long lead pass from Carolyn Mang and dribbled in on a breakaway towards the 18-yard box, luring the Raiders' goalkeeper Sophia Boggs off her line before chipping the ball into the gapping net to put Navy up 1-0.  For her theatrics on the field and leadership to the program, Dzhandzhapanyan was named the 2020-21 Patriot League Tournament MVP after the Mids claimed the conference title, 4-1 in penalty kicks. The Navy women's soccer program has now won two straight Patriot League Championships.

McGovern was part of three victories during Navy's 198-102 victory at Army in the annual Star Meet between the programs.  He first posted a time of 8:56.66 to win the 1000 freestyle by almost nine seconds, and in the process break the Navy (8:58.96), meet (8:58.96) and pool (8:59.15) records.  McGovern then completed the 500 freestyle in a winning time of 4:22.37.  He then swam the second leg on Navy's victorious 400 freestyle relay team that broke the meet (2:56.36) and pool (2:56.43) records with a time of 2:55.24.
