Women’s Tennis Seeded Third in Patriot League Tournament

Navy takes on Colgate at 1:30 p.m. on Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Navy women's tennis team earned the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament it will host from Thursday through Sunday in Annapolis. The Midshipmen start their tournament run on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. against No. 6-seeded Colgate.
 
All matches of the tournament are currently scheduled to be played outdoors at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium. Fans will be allowed to attend matches played outdoors, but if weather pushes competition indoors, fans are not permitted.
 
Navy enters the tournament with a record of 5-3 overall and finished 3-2 against Patriot League foes. In program history, the Midshipmen have a record of 15-10 in the Patriot League Tournament while going 9-0 in the quarterfinal round. This marks the fifth time in school history Navy has earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament and it has posted a record of 5-4 as the third seed.
 
This is the third time Navy will host the Patriot League Championship and in each of the previous two occurrences, the Midshipmen advanced to the championship match. The last time Navy hosted in 2016, it moved on to the final as the No. 3 seed.
 
Navy holds a record of 8-0 all-time against Colgate with two of those victories coming in the Patriot League Quarterfinals where the Midshipmen earned a pair of 4-0 wins over the Raiders. In matches played in Annapolis, Navy is 3-0 against Colgate with the last meeting in Annapolis coming during the 2018 season when the Midshipmen picked up a 7-0 decision.
 
The tournament begins on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. with No. 8-seeded Lafayette and No. 9-seeded Holy Cross squaring off in the opening round with the winner moving on to face top-seeded Boston University on Friday at 8:30 a.m.
 
The final morning quarterfinal features No. 4 Lehigh and No. 5 Bucknell facing off at 11 a.m. Following the Navy-Colgate match at 1:30 p.m., No. 2 Army and No. 7 Loyola wrap up the quarterfinal matches on Friday at 4 p.m.
 
Semifinals of the tournament are slated for Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with the championship match scheduled for noon on Sunday.
