DENVER, Colo. — Navy's
Spencer Rees (Sr / Baltimore, Md.), the 2021 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year, garnered Honorable Mention All-America recognition by Inside Lacrosse it was announced at halftime of the 2021 NCAA Tournament game between Loyola and Denver Sunday evening. Rees was one of 75 players to be selected as an All-American with 13 players named to each of the top three teams, while another 36 secured honorable mention honors.
As a first-year starter, Rees turned in a 9.88 goals-against average that stands 17th nationally, while his 58.9 save percentage is #4 and his 14.00 saves per game ranks fifth. Meanwhile as a team, the Mids boasted the nation's 13th-ranked scoring defense (10.00 GPG), while their man-down squad stopped 20 of the 29 extra-man opportunities (69.0) to rank 22nd. Among his multiple standout performances over the course of the season, none stood out more than the Star Game. He was named the US Lacrosse Div. I National Player of the Week and was selected to the USILA Div. I National Team of the Week after leading Navy to a 9-4 victory over 10th-ranked Army behind a career-high 19-save effort. Fourteen of his 19 saves were made over the final 30 minutes, making five stops on 11 shots in the third quarter and nine saves on 20 shots in the fourth.
The 2021 USILA All-Americans are expected to be announced leading in the NCAA Men's Lacrosse Semifinals.
