Jarosz Earns Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week Accolades

For a second time this season, Navy attackman Jon Jarosz (Fr / Gambrills, Md.) has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Jarosz garnered the recognition after pacing Navy with a career-best five-point performance at Lafayette in Saturday's regular season finale. Additionally, Army's Brendan Nichtern (offense), Loyola's Matt Higgins (defense) and Sam Shafer (goalkeeper), along with Lehigh's Mike Sisselberger (faceoff) were among those players recognized by the league office as players of the week at their respective positions.

Jarosz, who claimed his first rookie of the week citation following his three-goal effort against Jacksonville on Feb. 28, is only the second Navy player to earn the award multiple times (Tucker Hull, twice in 2011). While he is the 15th different Navy player to earn the league's rookie award, he is one of four who currently resides on the roster. Four-year starting attackman Christian Daniel (Sr / Owings, Md.) and long-stick defensive midfielder Jeff Durden (Sr / Cumming, Ga.) both won the award in 2018, while junior Nick Cole (A/M / Ashburn, Va.) was recognized in 2019.

One of nine players to score for the Mids in their 14-10 win over Lafayette, Jarosz paced Navy with four goals and an assist, scoring his four goals on five shots. The four goals are the most by a Navy freshman since Daniel punched in five against Lafayette in 2018. Additionally, the five-point day ties (Christian Daniel at Lehigh, April 10 and Patrick Skalniak vs. Loyola, April 3) as the third-best scoring output by a Navy player this year, while the four goals are tied as the most (Christian Daniel at Lehigh, April 10).

The Midshipmen open play in the Patriot League Tournament on Tuesday evening when they make the short trip to Baltimore to face second-seeded Loyola at the Ridley Athletic Complex in the quarterfinal round. Action is set for a 5:00 pm faceoff and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
