ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Aubin Hattendorf (So., Arlington, Texas) finished sixth at the MAISA Women's Singlehanded Championship to highlight the Navy intercollegiate sailing team's participation in two events over the weekend.
With Hattendorf being the lone sailor for the Midshipmen competing in the 12-boat field at the Faye Bennet MAISA Women's Singlehanded Championship. The competitors came from all over the country, vying for a berth at the National Singlehanded Championship in November.
Only conference champions will receive automatic berths to the aforementioned national championship, while the rest of the field will be filled out by at-large berths.
Hattendorf batted a light wind throughout most of the afternoon prior to recording her best finish of the afternoon, finishing second in the 14th and final race of the event. The combination of good and rough stretches throughout the event left her in the middle of the field, finishing sixth overall.
It will be determined later in the season as to if Hattendorf's finish will earn her a berth in the Singlehanded National Championship.
