ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy cross country program faces its toughest task to date with action on Friday at the 47th edition of the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. One of the largest and longest-running cross country events in the United States, this year's Paul Short Run features over 225 collegiate programs partaking in eight races throughout the day. Navy men's team will be the first participants to the line in Bethlehem as the Mids will look to race through the 8k course on the Murray H. Goodman Campus beginning at 11:00 a.m. The women's 6k event is scheduled to start 45 minutes later at 11:45 a.m. In addition to the two collegiate "gold" races, numerous Midshipmen will have the opportunity to race in the open contests at 9:30 a.m. (Men) and 10:15 a.m. (Women), respectively.
Lehigh University will be providing live in-race results during Friday's action.

The Navy men's cross country program continued its fast start to the 2021 season on Friday, Sept. 17 with its third team title in three weeks as the Mids raced up the standings at the Virginia Invitational and turned in four top-seven individual results. Taking on an eight-team field, including four regionally-ranked programs, the Mids finished seven points better than the host Cavaliers with a 31-38 advantage in cumulative team points. Miguel Mathias was the top finishing Navy individual as he placed second overall in the field of 75 runners in the 8k race at Panorama Farms. Mathias crossed the final line with a time of 24:19.2, 4.5 seconds shy of Virginia's Rohann Asfaw's victorious time of 24:14.7.

Women:
Racing for the third time in three weeks, the Navy women's cross country team faced its toughest task to date when the Mids took on a D1 regional field at the Virginia Invitational on Sept. 17. One of eight teams participating in the 5k race at the Panorama Farms course, the Mids used three top-10 individual results to finish second overall in the team standings.
Ellie Abraham was the top placing runner from Navy on Friday as she clocked in at 17:48.8, that was fifth-best in the field of 83 runners.
