Offshore Sailing Competes at Annapolis Yacht Club Labor Day Regatta

The Navy offshore sailing team competed in the Annapolis Yacht Club Labor Day Regatta over the weekend, highlighted by a seventh-place finish by the crew of the Avenger led by Madelyn Ploch.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy's offshore sailing team began its 2021-22 season at the Annapolis Yacht Club Labor Day Regatta this weekend where the Midshipmen had three boats compete in the J/105 class on the Chesapeake Bay.

After competition was postponed on Saturday due to unfavorable conditions, Navy returned to action Sunday with its top-finishing boat in the 20-boat class being the Avenger after Madelyn Ploch (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) led her crew to a seventh-place finish.

Samuel Hall (Sr., Perkinsville, Vt.) led his crew to a 17th-place finish on the Constellation, finishing one spot ahead of Patrick Michalik (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) and crew on the Dreadnought who recorded an 18th-place finish.

Navy is back in action this coming weekend as it takes part in three events including the NASS Race to Oxford (Sept. 11), Spirit Rider Regatta (Sept. 11-12) and the Hammond Memorial Race (Sept. 12).
