Fahning, Jackson and Nocita Earn Weekly Recognitions

Navy men’s soccer goalkeeper Tyler Fahning and defender Matt Nocita garnered honors as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and Defender of the week, respectively. Additionally, David Jackson was named the NAAA Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Navy men's soccer goalkeeper Tyler Fahning (Sr., Victoria, Minn.) and defender Matt Nocita (Sr., Porter Ranch, Calif.) garnered honors as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and Defender of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday. Additionally, midfielder David Jackson (So., Cypress, Texas) was named the NAAA Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman.  
 
Fahning continued his strong start to the 2021 season with a 2-0 record on the week, totaling eight saves over the two games while yielding just one score. The senior goalkeeper began the week by tallying three saves and allowing just one score in a 2-1 overtime victory against Iona. Fahning followed up his strong performance against the Gaels by recording a career-high seven saves en route to the fourth shutout effort of his career in a 2-0 win over La Salle.

On the season, Fahning has played every minute in goal for the Mids (387:26) over four games, recording two shutouts while allowing just three goals and picking up 12 saves in addition to having an .800 save percentage and a 0.70 GAA.
 
Jackson continued his strong play at midfield for Navy through its two contests this week, tallying the game-winning, penalty-kick goal in overtime against Iona. Additionally, the sophomore midfielder recorded three shots, one being one goal, over the two games. Through four matches, Jackson leads the Midshipmen in points (5) while being tied for the team lead in goals (2), game-winning goals (1) and assists (1).

Nocita assisted a defensive effort by the Mids in their 2-0 win over Iona that limited the Gael attack to just six total shots, two being on goal. In addition to anchoring the Navy backline, the senior defender tallied his first score of the season, the fifth of his career, to open the Midshipmen scoring effort against the Explorers in the 25th minute. This season, Nocita has played all 387 minutes for the Mids' defense along with recording a score, three shots on goal and five total shots.
 
Navy will return to action Friday night as it travels to Washington, D.C. for a non-conference match against George Washington with opening kick slated for 1 p.m.
