Track and Field Returns to Action with Dual Meet Against Princeton

The men’s meet is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s meet taking place at 2:30 p.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team hosts Princeton in a dual meet on Saturday, Jan. 15 at Wesley A. Brown Field House. The men's meet begins at 11:30 a.m. with the field events with the running events starting at 11:15 a.m. Following the men's meet, the women's competition starts at 2:30 p.m. with the field events and 3:30 p.m. with the running events. The meet is open to the public and admission is free.
 
Under Director of Navy Track and Field Jamie Cook, the Midshipmen are 14-5 (.737) in dual meets, including an 8-5 (.615) during indoor competitions. Last year, the Mids swept Army during the indoor and outdoor seasons in Navy's only dual meets of the year.

Accessing the Naval Academy
The Naval Academy is closed to all vehicles without a Department of Defense-approved identification card. All other visitors must either walk through one of the security gates or ride the shuttle bus. The free shuttle bus service begins one hour before all meets. Whether walking on or riding the shuttle bus, those ages 18 and over must present a photo identification card (driver's license) to gain access and those ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

The shuttle will depart from the blue (west) side parking lot at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Enter the lot off of Taylor Avenue (south side of the stadium). There is a $5 parking fee per vehicle. The shuttle will depart from and return to the bus stop next to the Blue Angel jet.
 
COVID-19 Policy
As per Department of Defense regulations, those who have not been vaccinated must wear a mask at all times when on the USNA grounds and those who have been vaccinated have the option to wear a mask while outdoors but must wear a mask while indoors. Additionally, masks must be worn by everyone regardless of vaccination status while riding the shuttle bus.

Last Time Out: Navy Invitational I (Dec. 4, 2021)
Navy officially opened the 2021-22 campaign with the annual Navy Invitational I at Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. The Midshipmen finished the day with 29 IC4A / ECAC qualifying marks and times. On the day, the men's team recorded 20 IC4A qualifiers, while the women's team combined for nine ECAC marks.
 
Men's Recap
Brahmir Vick (Middletown, Del.) posted a pair of IC4A times in the 60m hurdles. The sophomore posted a time of 8.07 in the prelims before trimming the time to 7.99 in the finals. Vick became the second student-athlete in Navy history to run a sub-8 time in the hurdles, joining school-record holder Clayton Thompson ('21).
 
Baynes Autrey (Mountain Brook, Ala.) joined Vick with an IC4A time in the 60m hurdles, clocking an 8.26. Sethan Hollier (Baton Rouge, La.) registered a pair of IC4A qualifiers in the 60m (6.95) and 200m (21.89) dashes. Caden Dailey (Centreville, Va.) added three qualifying performances in the 60m (6.96), 200m 22.13), and long jump (7.09m / 23-03.25). Freshmen Jay Evans (Cusseta, Ga.) and Jonathan Simmons (Oakland, Calif.) notched IC4A times in the 200m (22.20) and 500m (1:05.04), respectively, in their first collegiate meet.
 
In the distance events, Sean Casey (Vienna, Va.), Derek Gess (Haddonfield, N.J.), and Alex Rizzo (Bronxville, N.Y.) recorded IC4A qualifying times. Casey and Gess finished 1-2 in the 1,000m run with times of 2:28.39 and 2:28.98, while Rizzo claimed the mile run with a time of 4:08.88.
 
Jack Haller (Cumming, Ga.), Walker Rudisaile (Marion, Texas), and Charles Crispi (Staten Island, N.Y.) swept the pole vault, each posting a height of 4.95m (16-02.75). Jordan Payne (Wendell, N.C.) notched an IC4A qualifying mark in the triple jump with a top distance of 14.66m (48-01.25).
 
In the throws, Joshua Boamah (San Diego, Calif.) and Collin Greene (Elkridge, Md.) logged IC4A marks in the shot put (16.21m / 53-02.25) and weight throw (17.18m / 56-04.00), respectively.
 
Women's Recap
On the women's side, Sabrina Sutter (Shingletown, Calif.) posted an ECAC time of 24.61 in the 200m dash, tying the junior for 10th best time in Navy history.
 
Senior team captain Alexa Arthun (Manhattan, Mont.) registered a pair of ECAC qualifiers in the 60m hurdles, clocking a time of 8.87 in the prelims before crossing the finish line with an 8.81 in the finals. Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Helen West (Pinehurst, N.C.) notched top-five finishes on the day in the 400m. Mangan won the event with a 55.84, while West finished fifth with a 56.81.
 
The 4x400m relay team combined for an ECAC qualifying time of 3:52.20, just seconds away from breaking into the Navy all-time top 10.
 
In the pole vault, the Midshipmen recorded three ECAC qualifiers, sweeping the event. Charlene Morke (Isanti, Minn.) cleared a height of 3.90m (12-09.50) to win the event, while freshman Mimi McHugh (Houston, Texas) took second in her first meet with a height of 3.80m (12-05.50). Arthun rounded out the top three with an addition ECAC mark of 3.70m (12-01.50).
 
Last Time vs. Princeton (Jan. 11, 2020)
Navy split a dual meet with Princeton at Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. The Midshipmen's men's team posted a 107-68 victory over the Tigers, while the women's team was edged 90-87. As a team, Navy notched 36 total IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks throughout the day.
 
Men's Recap: Navy 107, Princeton 68
Navy opened up the day with a 107-68 victory in the men's dual. As a team, the Navy men won 10 of 17 events on the day. In addition, the Midshipmen men posted 24 IC4A qualifying times / marks.
 
Clayton Thompson ('21) posted the third fastest time in program history to win the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.00. His IC4A qualifying time was third in Navy history behind his two sub-eight second performances in the Navy's opening meet of the season in December.
 
Eric Hughey ('21) claimed the 400m dash with a time of 48.30, while John Finnegan ('20) won the 800m run with a time of 1:53.11. In the distance events, David Nelson (Chandler, Ariz.) claimed the 1-mile run (4:11.80), while Miguel Mathias (Nekoosa, Wisc.) won the 3,000m run (8:25.14) and Grant Van Valkenburg (Duvall, Wash.) took the 5,000m run (14:45.15).
 
In the field events, Caden Dailey (Centreville, Va.) won the long jump with a distance of 7.22m (23-08.25), while Cedric Williams ('20) continued his dominance in the triple jump with a winning mark of 14.76m (48-05.25). Tommy Reeder ('20) notched the top distance in the weight throw with a mark of 17.81m (58-05.25)
 
The Navy 4x800m relay team claimed the race with a collective IC4A time of 7:46.00.
 
Women's Recap: Princeton 90, Navy 87
In the second meet of the day, the Navy women's track and field team was edged 90-87 by Princeton. The meet came down to the final race with the Tigers claiming the meet with a victory in the 4x800m relay. Despite the loss, the Midshipmen recorded 12 ECAC qualifying times / marks on the day, while also notching four top 10 performances in program history.
 
Senior captain Regine Tugade ('20) posted a pair of top 10 performances on the day. Tugade topped her own personal best in the 60m dash by 0.02 seconds (7.62) to notch the second-best time in Navy history. Tugade also posted a time of 24.72 in the 200m dash to claim the fifth-best mark in the program annals.
 
Navy's 4x400m relay team clocked a collective time of 3:47.52 to claim the fifth fastest time in Midshipmen history.
 
Sam Orie ('21) posted a top distance on the day of 17.82m (58-05.75) in the weight throw to tie for 10th in Navy history.
