ANNAPOLIS, Md. -
Isaiah Drake of the Navy gymnastics team collected his second weekly honor and as many days as late Wednesday he was announced as the College Gymnastics Association Co-Gymnast of the Week. Selected as the ECAC's Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, Drake has been recognized for his standout performance in the all-around at last Saturday's Navy Open. The freshman from Los Angeles, won the all-around competition that consisted of gymnasts from Penn State, William & Mary, Springfield and Temple.
One of just 23 gymnasts in the college ranks who have attempted to compete in all six disciplines this young 2022 season, Drake turned in high-level performance after high-level performance for the Mids at the Navy Open on Saturday as he placed top-six on the floor exercise, pommel horse, rings and high bar. His 13.85 on the floor was tops in the field, while his high bar effort ranked second overall courtesy of a 13.25 score. Drake netted respective 12.45 and 13.25 scores on the pommel horse and the rings to finish sixth overall. Additionally, he earned 13.1 points on the vault and 11.8 on the parallel bars to round out his all-around score at 77.7. Nationally, that is the eighth highest AA score this season.
Drake shared the CGA Co-Gymnast of the Week honor with Oklahoma's Raydel Gamboa. This is the first national gymnast of the week award in Drake's young career.
After competing in the West Point and Navy Opens to begin its 2022 campaign, Navy will turn its attention to head-to-head competition this weekend when the Mids welcome the Tribe of William & Mary to Halsey Field House for a 2 p.m. ECAC league contest.
